The very popular Masters Tennis Tournament returns to the Royal Albert Hall London this December for a 13th year. The AEGON Masters Tennis touranment as it is known this year takes place between 1st December 2009 to 6th December 2009, the tournament was previously called Blackrock Masters Tennis.
Some of the legends of the game will return for this tournament including Pat Rafter, Stefan Edberg and Goran Ivanisevic, the royal albert hall is an amazing venue to see players close up.
This tournament offers the perfect combination of drama, tension and skill with competitive singles and entertaining doubles matches taking place each session. The doubles event is more relaxed but still makes for compelling viewing, with wonderful displays from crowd favourites Henri Leconte, Mansour Bahrami, Pat Cash and a host of other legends of the game.
Former Wimbledon finalist Mark Philippoussis is to return to the city that he so nearly conquered when he plays in the AEGON Masters Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall in London, December 1-6.
Philippoussis, who also reached the final of the US Open during his career, will be making his debut on the ATP Champions Tour when he lines up alongside fellow grass-court greats Goran Ivanisevic, Pat Rafter and Stefan Edberg at the season-ending event. For Philippoussis, who beat Andre Agassi on his way to the 2003 Wimbledon final before losing to Roger Federer, it will be an opportunity to renew rivalries and rekindle his relationship with the British public.
The event, which has featured an array of Wimbledon champions including Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe and Pete Sampras every December since 1997, will now be known as the AEGON Masters Tennis, further extending the life assurance and pensions company’s involvement in the sport. Having already become the Lead Partner of British Tennis in January 2009, the title sponsorship of the AEGON Masters Tennis ensures that AEGON is involved in tennis at every level – from grass roots development to international professional tournaments, and now to the sport’s most celebrated champions.
